Is it normal for beams of light to be noticeable in the four corners of an LCD TV when first turned on?
I have a 32" Sony Bravia LCD television (32S3000), which I bought as a refurb last month from Sony Style. When I first turn it on, I notice beams of light in all four corners but after about 30-40 minutes, they completely disappear. Is there supposed to be a warm-up period? This is not noticeable if I watch something in full-screen or zoom mode but I always watch in "normal" mode, which leaves the black banding on the sides. Thanks!
LCD HDTVs use fluorescent tubes behind the screen as the light source for your TV. These tubes generate heat, heat that will cause the screen to expand when the TV is on. LCD HDTVs must be designed to accommodate this expansion. When the screen is cold and you first turn on the TV, light escapes past the screen until it expands. This is known as back-light bleed-through, a common problem in low cost LCD HDTVs, not in the Sony 32S3000. With the report that the light escapes in all four corners, there may not be much that can be done to correct the problem. You can try and contact the seller. My guess is that the screen is a replacement (you bought a refurbished TV). It may not even be the original screen spec'd for this TV. Contact the seller & see what they can do for you.
