A friend of mine swore that he just can't stay a day without the benefits of Digital TV. It's not surprising why this is so -- with the hundreds of various channels to choose from. Aside from the many channels that Digital TV has, there are lots of other reasons why it's preferred than Cable TV.

I have decided to replace my 21 year old console tv (it's beginning to show it's age) with a LCD tv. I have been trying to compare the details between each tv but it''s like a foreign language to me.

On LCDs you need to pay attention to the refresh rate or as you stated it "CineSpeed™ 8ms Response", the connections available, whether it has a tuner or not (HD ready or HD built in), the brand, and the resolution.

The refresh rate is how fast the picture on screen is refreshed. In most cases 8ms would be good but depeding on the brand some LCDs have a ghosting issue where fast movig scenes, such as sports, have a tendency to blur for a split second. This is a minor issue, but can get annoying at times.

The minimun connections you need to have are as follows. 2x HDMI, 2x Component, 1x Composite. You may want to also look for one with a VGA connection to connect a computer or game system. The VGA is completely optional.

Most likely you will want a built in tuner so you can watch TV directly instead of buying a seperate tuner for it.

Brand is a huge thing in TVs. Stick with familiar brands such as Sony, Samsung, Toshiba, Sharp, etc.

Finally, resolution. If you want to be future proof for the next 15 years you want a TV that does 1080p. For a television that is a standard HD and somewhat cheaper look for 720p. Right now it is not as evident to tell the difference between the two, but as other technologies catch up 1080p will be the standrad resolution and be optomized to be much clearer. Both resolution look great but again, 1080p will be future proof for quite a while.
