NTSC HDTV PAL ps3?
I was thinking of buying a lcd HDTV off eBay because I have a Playstation 3 and want to play it with maximum picture quality, the tv i'm looking at is full HD 1080p, 8000:1 contrast ratio and looks perfect. The only problem is it says its "TV system ATSC, NTSC". I live in the UK and my Playstation 3 is PAL region 2.
Will this be a problem? Can you play a PAL PS3 on a NTSC TV and if so will the quality still be as good? I have sky digital aswell, will it all still work on a NTSC TV? Will Dvd's play on this TV if they are region 2? Help please, any answers appreciated, thanks
The regional coding is a feature that only applies to DVDs. The tv set doesn't care what region it's in - only DVD players.
I am concerned about you wanting to buy a NTSC tv though. This means that it was built for the USA market and is intended to run from 110 volt 60 Hz mains. The UK mains is 230 volts 50 Hz. That's over twice the mains voltage. Unless you use a transformer (more expense) you will blow your tv up.
Your SKY box outputs via a SCART connector. The SCART system is European so there is a possibility that the American tv won't have one.
The American television channels do not use the same UHF allocations as UK ones so you will have problems trying to receive things off-air. Also, the NTSC system does not give such good colour rendition.
The tv set will expect a picture input of 525 lines scanned at 60Hz. Your European inputs will be 625 lines 50Hz so the picture may look odd. Even if you're using HD at 1080p the scanning rate could cause problems.
