TV's: LED,LCD, or OLED?
Sure, it may be another 5 years for a 42" OLED television, but the picture quality is unmatched. I'm leaning towards a LED television, but don't know a whole lot about them, other than that's the way their backlit.
Care to shed some light on the subject?...
I wouldnt say the picture quality is unmatched. Clarity of the picture comes down to mainly one thing: resolution. So unless the tv youre speaking of has a resolution greater than 1080p I would disagree. As far as OVERALL picture quality goes, plasma's will be unbeatable. And there's one reason for that: response times. Plasma's response times are near instaneous at .001ms. As opposed to the best LCD's at 2ms. Poor response times result in image blur. Look at any LCD with a poor response time and on the edge of the image in motion there will be a trailing effect, especially with any 120-240hz. The whole 120-240hz feature is a complete joke. Its suppose to reduce image blur but it actually makes it worse. LCD's naturally have problems displaying motion, by adding more frames per second it makes it even more difficult for the televisions pixels to keep up. Besides response times, plasma's also have other advantages which will lead to a superior picture: higher contrast, more accurate colors, and better wiewing angles. The reason plasma's are better in these areas you actually mentioned, backlighting. Any type of backlighting, which is how any LCD or LED produce their picture, will greatly reduce any of the fore mentioned features. If you have any doubts about any of the information mentioned refer to my reference which puts a plasma up against an LED. The plasma beat it hands down.
