I am buying an LCD TV. Should I go for Sony or Samsung?

I am having a very hard time deciding between a Sony or Samsung flat panel LCD television , as I have heard good things about both of them. The models I am considering are both 40 inches, 1080p resolution, and 60hz Any opinions or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Until recently I would have said Sony but my last run in with their customer service has changed all that. The LCD tvs today are in such great demand that should something go wrong with your TV (even under warranty), you will wait a very long time to get the parts to fix it and be mad as hell with the tactics and answers you get from their CS department. I highly recommend purchasing an extended unlimited warranty that allows you to return the TV back to the store you bought from for a one for one swap. This will replace your TV right away and give the store the headache of getting the thing repaired.

My research shows that Samsung and all the others sell all the same features as Sony models. Sony just charges more for them. Print and compare the spec sheets.

There is more than a good chance you will need to repair the TV down the road. It is my guess that as long as the few factories making the panels are backlogged, getting fast reliable service is in the back seat. I suspect no matter what brand you select this will be the case. Buy the extended warranty!
