The 65" Sony 1080p LCD HDTV carries a refreshingly tasteful design, sure to blend with any décor. The dark charcoal grey exterior with sharp and straight bezel edges demand a second glance. Sony Bravia KDL-40V4000 Bad quality?
I purchased a Sony Bravia KDL-40V4000 on Monday 4th May, Xbox 360 and Blu-ray Player are absolutely fantastic however when you use the in-built tuner the picture is an absolute shambles, i have BT Vision plugged in through HDMI 1080i but this quality is still extremely bad. Finally i have a standard sky box plugged in through scart, this seems to have a slight improvement but still alot worse than my old tv. Any suggestions?? Is it broken? Any Suggestions greatly appreciated
Was your old TV a CRT set? That would do it then.
Your new TV has a native resolution of HD (1920x1080 I believe based on that model number). So when you plug in your broadcast television source, it has to upscale that image to the native resolution. If you're watching SD channels, then its not going to look amazing, because of that upscaling. But your Xbox and BluRay player can natively put out (or upscale) to 1080, so they will look good as they have better built-in hardware than the TV for that purpose.
Your old CRT TV was natively 720x576 (you're in EU yes?). That's also the resolution of your broadcast programming. No scaling involved. So the image will hold its max quality.
Also CRTs are actually a better technology than LCD. They produce better images through and through. The problem is their size, weight, inconvenience. Most people were willing to sacrifice some on quality to make tremendous gains in those other areas.
